XBox360 Launched!

Last night, Teong Wayne Lim and Ah Beng went for the official Australian launch of the XBox360. Clinton also came along, once he found out they were giving out freebies.

Ah Beng got there at 22:20pm, and didn't expect it to be so happening. There were lcds and xboxes set up everywhere, the XBox cheerleaders were dancing and giving out freebies, and Nova 96.9 were there too. The Microsoft marketing team also had a booth up and they were giving out bottles of water, coke zero and dominos pizzas. Too bad it was raining.

Fridgey & Matty from Nova 96.9 interviewed Ah Beng. It went like this...

"So we've got Jason [should've told them name was Ah Beng] from Lane Cove here waiting in line. Tell me Jase how are you feeling?"

"I'm sick of waiting here man. I just want to take the damn thing home."

"That's understandable mate. Did you take the day off work tomorrow?"

"Yeah I did but they have my phone number so I'll have to switch it off."

"Haha yeah just start coughing when they do."

Ah Beng then was given the chance to win a free game but unfortunately Ah Beng doesn't listen to chow ang moh radio stations so couldn't get it right. And when Ah Beng just asked for them to give it to him they would not.

Electronic Botique was the shop handling all the pre-orders. They had a stupid system set up. Teong Wayne Lim and Ah Beng paid everything off beforehand and went early but still had to wait till midnight. We were just issued with a blue ticket.

Since we had time to kill, Ah Beng took the opportunity to take photos with some of the XBox cheerleaders. These girls had to be part of the XBox team because they didn't make it into the Kings.

Ah Beng also saw Kameo, the main character from one of the games Ah Beng got. Ah Beng will be "playing" with Kameo all day today.

Clinton arrived soon after, and immediately started collecting free caps. We ended up loitering around the place to kill time.

There were a couple of hip hop dancers doing their thing, and they even did krumping, which always makes Ah Beng laugh. The need to express oneself using such a dance technique is unneccessary in Ah Beng's opinion. Ah Beng expresses himself by parading around in his speedos. What was even more funny was the crowd. The geeks and 40 year old virgins didn't care for any of this... all they wanted were their XBoxes.

It was then brought to Ah Beng's attention that a star from Home & Away was being interviewed. Ah Beng doesn't watch Home & Away and only knows the theme song [you know we belong together], but asked Jason Smith to take a photo with him anyway.

Finally, it was close to midnight. The XBox girls came out once more to do one last performance, still failing to get any reactions out of the nerds. James Mathison, of the hosts from Australian Idol, was also there but Ah Beng couldn't track him down for a photo.

The way things worked were that each person was issued with colored tickets. Green got to go first, followed by blue etc. Teong Wayne Lim & Ah Beng were blue ticket holders, and were waiting in line. After 45 minutes, Ah Beng heard that blue ticket holders were actually being sent in, and proceeded to the front, by passing the red ticket holders. But the security guards told us that we missed out and that we had to go in with the red people.

Before Ah Beng could open his mouth, Teong Wanye Lim started arguing and insisted that we be let in. The security guards refused, but got one of the EB organisors to talk to us, who refused to apologise but let us in after another 10 minutes. EB has a stupid crap system in place, and Teong Wayne Lim & Ah Beng have decided to go to to the PS3 launch later in the year to voice our protests.

Finally, at 1:30 am, Ah Beng got his XBox. The shameless staff at EB tried to sell Ah Beng an extended warranty, but Ah Beng told them it was unneccessary as he would mod chip the xbox as soon as he could. Ah Beng quickly drove home and set things up.

So how's the XBox? Nothing special so far lah. Ah Beng's still not very excited about it yet.
